Can I see an example of a good writing sample one?
Sure! Here's a writing sample for Makoto, aka- Sailor Jupiter. Just so you have an idea, the sample is about 560 words.
~*~*~*~
Makoto ran around the back kitchen. Nothing was going as she wanted. She had had this restaurant for three years now. But, whenever it got busy, which it always did, it seemed no one was ever around to help. Even with a full staff, she found herself doing more and more work.
"What's the next order up?" she asked, putting the finishing touches on a sushi order.
"I believe that was the last one, Makoto," her runner replied.
"Finally," she said, wiping a bead of sweat from her brow. "I'll take this one out," she said to him. "I need to get out of this kitchen!"
She placed the sushi order on a tray along with the order her fellow chef finished. She could see him taking a drink of water from a glass as he sat down for a break. Makoto wanted to grab a drink too, but knew the order had to get out as soon as possible. Her own thirst could wait.
Makoto picked up the tray and took it out to the table. As she walked through her restaurant, she smiled at everyone enjoying her food. No matter how stressed she got over her job, the happy faces made it all worth while. That was the reason that she had started this restaurant. She wanted to share her cooking with everyone, not just her own family. Now, three years later, it was one of the hottest restaurants to eat at. Her hard work had paid off tenfold.
In a back corner she saw a cute guy. 'Wow ... he looks just like my ex' ... Makoto mentally slapped herself. 'Stop looking at guys! You're married now.' Makoto shook her head and set the order down in front of the man. He smiled as he picked up his chopsticks.
"Enjoy your meal, sir," she said, bowing slightly.
The man didn't reply. He only nodded his head as he stuffed the sushi into his mouth.
Makoto made her way back to the kitchen to take a break. Or, as much of a break she could manage. It was hard taking on three jobs: mother, master chef, and finally the senshi of thunder. Makoto had a sneaking suspicion that as soon as she sat down to rest, her communicator would go off. That's how it always worked. Makoto no sooner sat down when she could hear her wrist-watch/communicator beeping softly.
'Ugh ... not now ...' she thought to herself.
She walked into the kitchen and immediately walked out the back door. She looked into the communicator.
"What is it? I've got a packed house!"
"That will have to wait. We've got trouble. Transform and get down to Crystal Tokyo Park," Luna said, then clicked off the transmission.
Makoto sighed and stuck her head back into the kitchen. "I have to run out for a minute. Auska, will you cover for me?"
One of the other chefs looked up. "No problem Makoto."
"Thanks," Makoto ran back outside. "Jupiter Eternal Power, Make up!" she cried raising her henshin stick in the air. A few moments later she emerged as Sailor Jupiter.
Luckily, her restaurant wasn't very far from the Park. She ran into it and saw the rest of the senshi fighting off a youma.
"You have pulled me away from my restaurant, and I am not happy. In the name of the planet Jupiter, I will punish you!"
