Meanwhile, Makoto sat on the shuttle with the others, staring off into space. Her mind was still back at the battle field when she could have sworn that she heard Hito call her daughter her mother... She and her daughters were still in a bit of a spot emotionally, but it would be all right soon enough. After a while, a conversation between Hito and Sam caught her attention. "Anyway, I know I'm really a stranger to you, but I wanted to know if you're angry with your father or something." Hito began. "Huh?" Samantha gave her an odd look and hesitated before speaking again, "Well, no, not necessarily, it's just-" "Well, Motoki'll understand, whatever it is," "Motoki?" Samantha and Makoto said at the same time, although Hito did not hear the Jovian Senshi say it under her breath. A huge lump formed in her throat, and she had trouble swallowing it. "Motoki is Sam's father?" "Yeah, Motoki... you know, your dad?" Makoto couldn't listen to anymore of the conversation. She buried her head in her hands to hide the fact that she was almost in tears from the others. She blocked out the horrible battle from before just a little while, and focused on the problem at hand. 'Reika ... but he said they never had any children. What is going on? Goddess ... please give me strength ...' The shuttle came to a screeching haul, sending everyone crashing into the seat in front of them. Makoto cracked her neck and sat up quickly. She could feel her emotions rolling inside her, and she had to leave before she lost control. Makoto excused herself and ran off the shuttle without waiting for Motoki. She ran into the garden and came to a small pond. Makoto knelt down in front of it, staring at her reflection in the water. She had a feeling that Motoki would come and find her soon ... but she wasn't sure if she could face him just yet. Makoto began tossing around different scenarios and and worries in her mind. Had Motoki been unfaithful? Could Sam possibly be Reika's child? What would this do to her family? Could she trust Motoki? What would this do to her daughters? Would anything be all right again? Just then Motoki showed up, pulling Makoto out of her thoughts. After a few awkward moments, Makoto asked her if he had been unfaithful to her, dreading the answer with each passing moment. "No, Makoto. Reika was pregnant when we divorced and she didn't tell me ... Y ... You believe me right?" Makoto still didn't look at him. Here was her chance. The Goddess had answered her prayer, but could Makoto really believe it? Could she believe him? "Motoki ... I want to believe you. I really do. But ... I don't know. I ... " Finally, Makoto couldn't take it anymore. She threw herself into Motoki's arms, sobbing. "Why this? Why now?" she asked, holding onto him desperately. She looked up at him through blurry eyes. She decided that he was telling the truth. Obviously he didn't know either. The look on his face told her that. "I believe you ... " she whispered. After talking for a few more minutes, the two parted ways. Makoto went to see her daughters and Motoki... Well he needed to drown his sorrows... Only sadly he chose a bar. He remained there for some time, drinking to forget all that happened that day. He wanted to forget the horror of the battle's aftermath. He wanted to forget all the fears he had had when he thought of what could have happened to his daughters... All three of them. And he wanted to forget the new addition too. He wanted to forget Reika and how she had lied to him... Hell he wanted to forget his first marriage entirely. He just wanted to forget... everything. The alcohol did help to numb the pain for awhile, but in the end it only served to make his temper short. He ended up being thrown out of the bar after destroying a few shot glasses. Then he had gone by Haruka's home that she shared with Samantha and Michiru, and demanded to see Samantha... Blessedly, she was not home to see her father like that, but Haruka was. The blond woman promptly threw him out, roughing him up a bit in the process. Then he stumbled back home and collapsed on the couch, still trying to forget...
