Chapter 01: A Long Awaited Union

Chenoa had been greatly drained in the battle against the shades and was no lying in bed (against her will) to recuperate. Usagi was keeping vigil over her sister, vowing to have her and Kodia married before the week was out to make up for any ill she had caused the woman...

And Usagi always kept her promises.

Exactly six days later, Usagi added some finishing decorative touches to Makoto's feast, laid out on a long, carved stone table in the gardens. As the woman had vowed, the wedding was happening within the week… And she was even one day ahead of schedule.

Across the table, Minako was half-heartedly refolding a gold, silver and lavender marble-dyed linen napkin. Usagi watched her and could not help but sigh. The girl has been so quiet and reclusive since that dreaded meeting. She could not help but worry over her as everyone else was. She had even made sure that Minako was constantly under someone's watchful eye when Yahara could not be there for whatever reason… Of course, Minako didn't know this and she wasn't about to tell her, but it was for her own good.

Usagi turned away from her, deciding now was not the time to mope and chose instead to admire all of their work. Gleaming gold and silver satin cloth streamed from everything possible including the edge of the table and over the gazebo, from the many rose bushes, and the entire side of the palace facing the gardens. The water in all the fountains had been tinted a pale lavender in honor of the occasion. Flowers from a near-black violet to white with the faintest hint of lavender were heaped on the round table.

After checking on a few last minute things and sending a few of the Senshi back to their rooms to get read (as they had not done so yet, busily helping to set everything up), Usagi rushed back into the palace and to Chenoa's chambers. Hikari and Setsuna were fussing over her, adding the finishing touches. Chenoa had wanted nothing more than a simple gown and shoes, but Usagi had insisted on a little more. The gown was fitted white satin with lavender gauze sewn over it that Chenoa requested; there is a seam under her bust and the shoulder straps cross over the low-cut back. She was clutching a bouquet of roses and lilies tied with many streaming ribbons, her knuckles white. More ribbons and flowers were braided into her hair, and a simple trailing bit of the gauze flowed from her head to barely brush the floor. She had donned plum-colored satin heals and a light touch of cosmetics. She shook with nervousness, but tried to hide with a smile as all brides tended to do.

"Everything is ready, I'll give Haruka and Michiru the signal soon so they will start the Wedding March any minute now," Usagi said.

"But..." Chenoa objects. "I'm not ready...I need to-"

"You're perfect Chenoa, don't be nervous. After checking on her progress, the queen ran to her own chambers, where the men have been waiting for hours. She grabbed Endymion's arm and gestures for the others to follow. They finally reached the exit and the rest of them couple up there. Kodia paces and fidgets in his white and lavender tuxedo, anxious for the ceremony to begin. The other Senshi had finished all of their duties and were each sitting with their families or significant others if they had any. If not, they just remained by each other as friends and waited for the ceremony to begin with joy.

Save Minako and Yahara who were waiting with trepidation. Paranoia can do bad things to good people.

Heion practically skipped down the aisle a few moments later, looking quite adorable as a flower girl. After she had gone halfway down the aisle, Haruka and Michiru did indeed begin to play the Wedding March. All the spectators stood as it was customary to do, and awaited Chenoa's trip down the aisle...

Kodia stands next to Motoki next to the platform that Neo Queen Serenity is standing on, ready to give the vows. Suddenly Haruka and Michiru begin playing the wedding march. His first thought was that he had always thought that was a pretty tune, but that was quickly forgotten when he saw Chenoa walking towards him…

Kodia smiled as if he had never before seen Chenoa looking so radiant or beautiful. He takes her hand when she joins him on the altar, positively beaming. They're both incredibly nervous, and also incredibly happy. The couple turned to one another and joined hands as Neo Queen Serenity read the vows.

The ceremony went off with a few hitches that were both cute and endearing. Chenoa and Kodia had not been paying attention to anything that the Queen was saying. So when it was Chenoa's turn to say the traditional 'I do'. Kodia responded as well, neither of them being sure who she was talking to. Then came the exchanging of the rings… Hotaru was on the ball, but apparently Kodia had neglected to give Motoki his ring. As Heion cutely pointed out, he had left it on the dresser that morning, and she had been good enough to get it.

Those would probably be the only two things talked about when associated with their wedding for years to come.

At that moment the Queen announced that they were now husband and wife. Before she could say anything else, Kodia had lifted Chenoa's veil and they embraced in a passionate kiss.

Usagi smiled, barely suppressing her giggles as she said, "Well, I guess you knew to kiss the bride… Tell me again why I was up here?"

They were a little too busy to answer.

After the traditional Western wedding ceremony, there was to be a Shinto blessing performed by Rei. A separate altar had been set up specifically for this purpose, and now the newlyweds were happily proceeding over there.

"All who enter here must be clear of hate and anger!" Rei called out. "Those who cross the threshold must be willing to allow the goddess into their hearts and minds!" She then began to gesture towards the flowers that had been placed on the altar and explained their purpose placing a sprig of each flower into the hair of both bride and groom as she did so.

"The lavender represents never ending faith. The lilacs represent the purity of your union. The rose represents the love that you both have for each other. And the forget-me-nots are so you shall never forget the blessings the goddess has given you."

Rei then turned to Kodia, continuing with the blessing, "Are you, Kodia willing to allow the goddess in your union and allow her blessings to flow in your household? Will you use all the power and strength that you have to protect your wife, your family and your goddess?"

"I am willing and ready." Kodia spoke with more self assurance than he had ever felt.

"Chenoa, you are a mother and an Ancient. The goddess has already blessed you with so much. Are you willing to be humble and serving wife as well as remembering your duty to your queen and goddess?" Rei bit back a laugh trying to picture Chenoa as humble and obedient wife.

"I am as you say and my family is important but it will not derail me from my duty," Chenoa responded with a grin.

"The goddess is pleased by the unwavering faith that you show towards her and your belief in the duty you have accepted. Now come forward and drink the sake and we shall close the blessing. Praise be to the Goddess!"

Chenoa and Kodia came forward and drank the sake on the altar and repeated the phrase, "Praise be to the Goddess!"

"Praise be to the Goddess!" echoed the rest of the wedding party.

"Now then, we shall retire from the alter and have fun!"

Rei stepped backwards as the group left the altar. Upon doing so, she began to feel her head spinning. After the last vision she had received, she was severely weakened. For some reason, as all visions of impending doom did to her, she had been drained. She quickly called Hotaru over and hurriedly told her of her troubles, asking for a little medical attention without letting the others now. With that, the pair left the group, hoping they would not be noticed... And they weren't.

The reception soon followed, but it was a short one. For a few hours into it, Usagi announced her wedding gift to Chenoa and Kodia... She offered them the Mare Tranquilitatis, the Sea of Tranquility where the Castle of the Ancients was located. She then thereby decreed that they were Duke and Duchess of Tranquility.

They soon retired to the Castle... and behaved predictably.
