Chapter 02: Vision Quest

Rei quickly fell prey to sleep as she lay in the Med Ward... And as all sleep would soon yield for all of the Senshi, she received visions. Of the past, the present, and the future... All of which would soon blur and become one and bring their entire world crashing down...

----- Vision One -----

Rei was walking in the castle gardens when she saw Neo King Endymion sitting by the fountain looking at something in his hand. He had an odd look on his face, and Rei felt compelled to speak with him. She sat down beside him and asked, "Your highness? Is there something the matter?"

The King just looked down at his hand where four perfect jewels lay. The jewels were all black and seem very dull and lifeless. "They are gone. They have lost their shine. What am I to do when there is no shine? Can you make them shine again? Try this one."

The king handed her one of the stones. She held it in her hand. It was cold at first but it quickly heated up and almost scorched her hand. Jumping back rather unsettled she opened her hand and looked down the stone was now a brilliant green, and it sparkled with its own life.

"Ah..." Endymion said softly. "Only you can make that one shine. But now what to do with these other three? They are still gone... gone."

"Only I can make it shine?" Rei whispered.

"Yes," he said with a nod. "And only your heart can save it."

"Err... Your highness? Are you okay? You seem rather unstable."

The king turned and looked at her again. "Don't ask me, this is your vision."

----- Vision Two -----

My eyes are clouded... I feel that I have been here before... Snow! I gazed around. This looks familiar... My eyes widened… The Dark Kingdom I look down. I am in my old Senshi fuku. I walked into the Ante Chamber. There are four glass caskets broken, the smell of burnt flesh and death filled my senses. I turn away almost gagging. I walk up to the closest casket. Inside was a general's uniform... I wonder which one it came from. I touch the red ribbed neckline. A shiver goes down my spine. The sound of crumbling stones and movement from behind make me jump. A white gloved hand creeps on my shoulder.

"Princess... Princess..."

I snapped around, my fuku has disappeared and I am now wearing a long, deep red velvet gown. I am no longer in the dank Dark Kingdom's castle but in a shining room filled with people, but those people have no faces. They are all dressed in beautiful gowns and they swayed to a music that was entrancing and hauntingly beautiful. The music is muted as if I was listening to it underwater, but nonetheless I could feel the power that flowed in it. It seemed as if a grand ball or party was occurring around me.

My eyes landed on the hand resting on my shoulder. I follow that hand to an arm then to a body, then a face. A man with short blond hair and deep blue eyes stared back at her. "Princess Mars? Are you alright? Did I startle you? My deepest apologies." He bowed and took my hand kissing the knuckles gently then raised his eyes and smiled.

"Ah!" I gasped drawing in my air softly. "Jadeite" I whispered barely audible.

"Yes, my dear princess I am back..." Jadeite gathered me in his arms.

"Back from where? The dead?"

"I know my Princess it seems that way, but I will never leave you again. I am back and I will claim what is mine. And you, my Princess, are mine." Jadeite leaned in and kissed my lips with a passion I have not felt, not ever! I fell into the kiss enjoying it, while my head was still spinning the lips were released from mine. Instinctively I leaned forward wanting more.

I heard a chuckle.

"My dear it seems your princess is in need of you, I think the Queen is going to announce something of your Princess Serenity and my Prince Endymion. At last may the Silver Millennium here on the Moon and my Kingdom on Earth will be united. That means you and I will be together!"

Silver Millennium? Moon Kingdom? Earth Kingdom?

"What about Crystal Tokyo?" I asked absentmindedly.

"What is Crystal Tok-e-yo?" Jadeite spoke the words as if tasting them for the first time.

I then realized it I am not in my present but my past. I reached out for Jadeite but his form wavered. The rest of the room around me began to blur and lose its focus. I took a leap to grab Jadeite's figure, my hands groping for anything solid. The world around me began to come back into focus and I realize that I was grabbing at a shadow... A black Shadow with red eyes...

"You will be mine Princess, you have always been mine! I will claim you!" The figured hissed in a distorted snake like voice. It raised its hand and plunged it deep into my chest. It felt as if it was squeezing my soul.

"Mine... Mine... MINE!"

It kept repeating over and over and with each word the squeezing got tighter till I almost couldn't breathe...

----- Vision Three -----

I was floating against my will to the old ruins of the Moon Kingdom. There in a closed off space was the old prayer room. Sometimes Neo Queen Serenity would come here when she felt lonely or in need of peace. When my body landed I saw Queen Serenity, my best friend's long dead mother, looking across the rubble.

"It's all gone," she said

"No, your highness, it isn't. We have rebuilt it and everything is just as it was. Maybe even better!" I exclaimed.

"It is not different, but it is not same. Everything that was will be again. The mirrors will tell the truth of the past to those who want to know it." Queen Serenity said sadly almost forlorn.

"The mirrors? You mean Michiru's mirror?" I asked little confused.

"The mirrors tell the story. The mirrors know and soon you will as well, Princess of Mars."

Queen Serenity touched my cheek and walked over to the pillar of the prayer room and disappeared.

"Everything that was will be again?" I whispered.

'Does that mean all of our old foes will come back? Is that what my vision meant?'

And then I knew that it was true. They were back. *He was back.*

All I could do was scream.

----- End Vision Quest -----

And scream she did. She shot up in bed, shrieking like a mad woman. It disturbed Hotaru from what rest she was trying to get, but she did not seem to mind. The Saturn warrior rushed to Rei's side, trying to calm her and motioning for one of the nurses to get a sedative for the other woman.

"What is wrong! Why did you scream out like that?" Hotaru asked her hurriedly.

"They are coming! If they are not already here!" Rei cried out, eyes wild.

"Who is coming?"

"The generals! They are coming back!" Rei said looking half crazed. "You must tell the others immediately!"

Hotaru was now quite certain that Rei was in need of a lot of rest. Every once in the while the Senshi had a tendency to break down. It was not the first time Hotaru had been asked to go to a Senshi who had awoken, screaming about nightmares that didn't make sense. And it was not the first time she had to sedate a Senshi either...

And yet, despite the insane look that the now sleeping Rei had just a few moments before, Hotaru was uneasy. With the threat of Hebi and no one knowing his full capabilities...

She quickly flipped open the communicator, making sure she would not disturb Chenoa and Kodia and called all of the Senshi.

"Hey guys? I think we might have a problem... Get down to the Med Ward immediately. Rei just woke up screaming about the Generals...

"Apparently they're back."
