Chapter 08: Down by Three

Rei had been busy recooperating for the past three weeks, but she felt quite well now... She had decided to do a fire reading to at least determine if her daughter wished her to come and get her... Although she would no matter what she though. She went into the Meditation Room and chanted the familiar words for the sacred ritual, the practice second nature to her. Her voice steadily became louder and more intense each time the phrase was repeated. With the final word, she thrust her hands towards the blaze, flaring up, and she shut her eyes. She sat there, silently, and she waited for the fire to calm and her connection with it to grow stronger.

When both occurred, Rei's eyes sprung open, and she awaited the truth. The truth that would play out before her within the fire, What she saw horrified her.

It was her dear daughter, Sarah along with the other young one who had been stolen from them, Samantha. They were weak, possibly dying. They were surrounded by six shadowy figures, but she could not make out specifics. She stared at the flames in horror as they were snuffed out as quickly as they came.

It was now dark inside the room and Rei felt a scream rise up in her throat. She was shaking in fright, something that was vastly out of character for her. She was not helpless and she did not cower to anyone... But when it came to her daughter...

Then Rei leapt to her feet, a fire blazing in her eyes even more wild then the one that had just been in front of her. She was angry. She saw nothing but red and thirsted for blood. She gripped the henshin stick tightly and forced her tears of hate back.

"I can't wait anymore... It's already been to long... I don't care if Ami and Hotaru and everyone else say I'm too weak, I will NOT do this anymore! I will not let my daughter die!!"

Rei resolved that it was impossible for her to get Sarah back on her own, "Haruka will help me... She has to..." then held her henshin stick over her head and called out, "Mars Eternal Power... Make-UP!!"

Once the transformation was complete, she set off to find the senshi of the wind. It didn't take long for Mars to find Haruka. She was sneaking out of her room as well. Mars came up behind her and grabbed her by the arm, "Haruka. There's a problem,"

Haruka was surprised at Mars' shady behavior, and narrowed her eyes, saying, "What is it Rei? Why are you transformed?"

"I just did a fire reading... And I had a vision of Sarah and Samantha... They're in danger Haruka. I don't know what exactly, but the reason they haven't returned is because they can't. I think they want to come back, only something's keeping them at Alcatraz... Something evil,"

Haruka growled under her breath and curled up her fist, "Sam..."

"We can't wait any longer Haruka. We have to get them. Now. If you could have seen what was in that fire... Goddess, they looked like they were about to die," Mars narrowed her eyes darkly; "I will not allow my daughter to be harmed. Are you with me?"

"You bet I am..." then Haruka transformed into Sailor Uranus.

Suddenly another figure came up behind them, nearly scaring them to death. They both spun around, both relieved and unnerved that it was Mercury, "What are you doing here?" Uranus asked in a harsh whisper.

"I was about to ask you two the same thing," Mercury retorted, in not such a quiet voice.

"We are going after our daughters and there is nothing you can do to stop us," Mars explained blatantly, "Tell the others if you will, but we'll be gone by then."

"And who is to say I would try and stop you?" Mercury said, "In fact, I was wondering if I might accompany you. I have my own business to attend to and as you said, there is no stopping you. However, you'd be surprised how fast I might alert Michiru of the disappearance of someone who was to be resting in their room. I would hate to think of the consequences one might face. Hell hath no fury...or so the saying goes."

Little did they know, that they had been being watched by a third party... Michiru had been unable to find Chenoa to apologize on Haruka's behalf. She had eventually decided to retire, but had stopped when she saw the three up ahead. She listened to their conversation, but after a moment the three left the Palace. Michiru, seeing no reason to stay in the hallway, walked to her room and laid down to rest.
